This guide describes Foreman 1.1. If something here is missing in your copy, update Foreman in the App Store.
Getting started
- Set up your business. Open Settings and fill in your business name, phone, email and logo, your currency, your default hourly rate, tax and payment terms. They appear on every quote and invoice.
- Add a job. On Jobs, tap + and give it a title and the client's details. Start typing the address and pick a suggestion.
- Quote or work. Add items and labor, share the quote as a PDF, and when the client agrees turn it into a job. Or just start the clock.
- Invoice and get paid. Create the invoice from the job, share the PDF, and record deposits and payments as they arrive.
Jobs, quotes and invoices
Quotes
A quote lists materials and labor with the same markup, discount and tax as an invoice. Sharing a draft quote marks it as sent. Accept it to make it a job; quotes are free to write and do not count toward the free limit.
Invoices
An invoice follows the job: edit the job after it is issued and the PDF changes with it. Payments are recorded separately. An invoice moves by itself from unpaid to part paid, overdue or paid, and a paid invoice carries a PAID stamp.
Completing and deleting
Complete a job to move it to History with its time, photos and items kept. Deleting removes it for good, with no undo.
Money, tax and markup
- The Money tab shows what is outstanding, what is overdue and what you collected this month.
- Marking up an item: the price shown is your cost plus the markup, rounded to the cent.
- Tax can be added to the whole document, and you choose whether labor is taxed. A discount can never be larger than the subtotal.
- Amounts are rounded to the cent, with halves rounded up.
- If you used 1.0, the currency now follows your device. Change it in Settings.
Time
Start the clock from a job or the Time tab and stop it when you leave; you can close the app in between. One clock runs at a time, so an hour is never billed to two jobs. Hours are rounded up to 5, 15 or 30 minutes if you choose, and become one labor line, at your rate, on the invoice. A labor line appears only when the job has time and a rate.
Photos, clients and the widget
- Add photos from the camera or your library. Foreman asks for access only when you tap the button.
- Clients you have used before are remembered, so you can pick them again.
- Add the Foreman widget (small or medium) to your Home Screen to see what you are owed and which job is on the clock.
iCloud
Foreman keeps your jobs in your own private iCloud, so they follow you to your other iPhone, iPad or Mac. We cannot see them. If a job does not appear on another device, check that you are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account, that iCloud Drive is on in iPhone Settings > your name > iCloud, and that the device is online; give it a minute. Without iCloud, everything still works on the device. Android has no iCloud: export a backup file in Settings and import it on your other Android device.
Free plan and Pro
Foreman is free for your first three active jobs. Completing a job frees its place. Foreman Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited jobs, on every iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in with the same Apple Account. On Android, Pro is bought through Google Play and stays with your Google account. There is no subscription and nothing renews. Buy it, or tap Restore on a new device, in Settings > Go Pro.
If you subscribed monthly in Foreman 1.0, you keep Pro for as long as that subscription is active. You can manage or cancel it in iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions.
Common questions
Will my 1.0 jobs still be there after updating?
Yes. Your active jobs, running timer and clients carry over. Your currency changes from the old dollar sign to your device's currency; set it in Settings if you want something else.
Does Foreman work offline?
Yes. Everything is stored on the device; iCloud catches up when you are back online. Address suggestions need a connection.
Can I move my jobs to another phone?
On iPhone, iPad and Mac, sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on both devices; your jobs sync across. On Android, export a backup file in Settings and import it on the new phone. Jobs do not move between Android and Apple devices.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is paid once. If you still have the old monthly subscription from 1.0, cancel it in iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions; deleting the app does not cancel it.
Is there an Android or Mac version?
Yes. Foreman is on Google Play for Android phones and tablets, and one App Store purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac.
